Botsford Commons to Host Forums on Senior Living

Area seniors learn about experiencing the ‘Fullness of Life’

They aren’t called “The Golden Years” for nothing, but finding out how to live your best life in those years is sometimes easier said than done. That’s why the Botsford Commons Senior Community experts will present their “Living the Fullness of Life” program at three locations this fall.

The events will provide information on aging safely and other helpful resources for seniors.  

The first presentation will be held on Thursday, September 13 at the McDonnell Towers, at 24350 Civic Center Dr., Southfield, MI 48034 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.  Please call 248-426-6908 to register. 

The second presentation will be held on Friday, September 28 at Schoolcraft College’s Vis-Ta-Tech Center at 18600 Haggerty Rd., Livonia, MI 48152 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Please call 734-462-4443 for payment and registration information.   

The final presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 3 at the William Costick Center, located at 28600 Eleven Mile Rd., Farmington Hills, MI 48336 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Please call 248-473-1830 to register.

 “Living the Fullness of Life” includes informal presentations by Botsford Commons’ experts and their affiliates; “Aging and Fitness to Drive” by Dr. Richard Young, Ph.D of Wayne State University (9/28 and 10/3 dates only), “Healthy Aging” by geriatrician Dr. Annette Carron, “Brain Fitness” by Diane Zide; and “Getting Your Documents in Order; Community Resources” by Dawn Doyle.

Botsford Commons Senior Community will be hosting an on-campus Career Fair on Tuesday, August 7.

Available positions are: RN/LPN, C.N.A., Nurse Manager and RN Weekend Supervisor in full time, part time and casual statuses.  

The fair will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at 21450 Archwood Circle, Farmington Hills, MI  48336.  On-site interviews will be available.

Bright Side Dental awards scholarships to deserving Michigan students

ROYAL OAK, Mich., June 20^th, 2012 – Bright Side Dental group established the Bright Future Scholarship Program to assist deserving high school students in obtaining a college education. The deadline for entries was on April 30^th, 2012.

In order for applicants to qualify, each student had to be a graduating senior with at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be involved in extracurricular activities. It was also required that students live within the Bright Side Dental service areas.  Each applicant completed a one-page essay answering the following question: With social media and technology changing so rapidly, how do you envision dentists communicating with their patients in the future?

Essays were judged by a panel of dental health experts and two students were selected to each receive a $500 scholarship to be used toward college expenses. Elena Yarmy of Royal Oak High School and Braden Swantick of Churchill High School in Livonia were this year’s deserving winners.  Both students plan to attend the University of Michigan College of Engineering in the fall.  Bright Side Dental wishes Elena and Braden luck in all of their future endeavors.
