Mayoral, Council candidates set to debate issues in Chamber forum

(LIVONIA; September 20, 2011) – Candidates running for Livonia Mayor and Livonia City Council are scheduled to appear in a 7 p.m. candidate forum on Thursday, September 29, at the Livonia City Hall Auditorium. The forum is sponsored by the Livonia Chamber of Commerce.

The two-hour event is free and open to the public. Members of the audience will be able to ask question of the candidates as time permits. Bright House Networks will record the event and rebroadcast the program on cable-access television in the weeks leading up to the Nov. 8 election.

Only those candidates whose names appear on the ballot were invited to participate in the Chamber forum.

The forum will begin at 7 p.m. with mayoral candidates: Incumbent Jack Kirksey and challenge Patrick O’Neil. The mayoral forum will last about 30 minutes. The forum featuring the eight candidates seeking four seats on the Livonia City Council is scheduled to run from 7:45-9 p.m. Both forums will be moderated by Livonia Chamber of Commerce President Dan West.

In addition to this forum, the Chamber will soon post video clips on its website of the candidates seeking election to the Board of Education in Livonia and Clarenceville. Each candidate in those races were invited to have a recorded three-minute video message that addressed questions asked by the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee. The school board clips are scheduled to appear on the Chamber website around Oct. 1, and accessed on
www.livonia.org until Election Day.

“Advocacy is one of our missions at the Livonia Chamber,” West said. “While we do not endorse candidates, we work to provide helpful resources to inform our Chamber members and the entire community about those running for office in Livonia.”

For more information on these forums, reach the Livonia Chamber of Commerce at 734.427.2122.
